As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Kristin's family and friends clung to the hope that she would be found alive. However, their worst fears were realized when her body was discovered in a remote area of Bastrop County on January 14, 2014.
The news of Kristin's murder sent shockwaves through the community and beyond. Her death remained a mystery for several years, but in 2018, her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Patrick Kennedy, was arrested and charged with her murder.
The Early Years
Kristin Leigh Coley was born on May 19, 1989, in Austin, Texas. She was the youngest of three children born to David and Patricia Coley.
Kristin grew up in a loving home and was a bright and outgoing child. She excelled in school and was involved in many extracurricular activities, including dance and cheerleading.
After graduating from high school, Kristin attended Texas State University in San Marcos, where she studied communication. She was a popular student who made many friends and was known for her kind and compassionate nature.
A Young Woman in Love
In 2011, Kristin met Daniel Patrick Kennedy, a fellow student at Texas State University. The two quickly fell in love and began a relationship.
At first, their relationship seemed perfect. Kennedy was charming and attentive, and Kristin was head over heels in love. However, over time, Kristin's friends and family began to notice that Kennedy was possessive and controlling.
Kristin confided in her friends that Kennedy had become increasingly jealous and suspicious, and that he often accused her of cheating on him.
A Relationship Gone Sour
In the months leading up to Kristin's disappearance, her relationship with Kennedy became increasingly strained. Kristin had grown tired of his controlling behavior and wanted to end the relationship.
Kennedy was devastated by Kristin's decision and refused to accept it. He began stalking her and threatening her, and Kristin was forced to obtain a restraining order against him.
On the evening of November 23, 2013, Kristin was getting ready to leave her apartment when Kennedy arrived unannounced. He begged her to reconsider their breakup and refused to leave.
Kristin was frightened and tried to call the police, but Kennedy grabbed her phone and smashed it. He then forced her into his car and drove off into the night.
A Desperate Search
Kristin's disappearance was reported to the police the following day. A massive search was launched, but there was no sign of Kristin or Kennedy.
Kristin's family and friends clung to the hope that she was still alive, but as days turned into weeks, their hope began to dwindle.
In January 2014, Kristin's body was discovered in a remote area of Bastrop County. She had been strangled to death.
A Broken Heart
The news of Kristin's murder sent shockwaves through the community and beyond. Her family and friends were devastated by her loss, and they struggled to come to terms with the senselessness of her death.
Kristin's father, David Coley, became an outspoken advocate for victims of domestic violence. He worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the dangers of domestic abuse and to help other families who had lost loved ones to violence.
Justice Served
In 2018, Daniel Patrick Kennedy was arrested and charged with Kristin Coley's murder. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Kristin's family and friends were relieved that Kennedy had been brought to justice, but they knew that no punishment could truly heal the pain of their loss.
Kristin's Legacy
Kristin Coley was a beautiful, intelligent, and compassionate young woman. Her life was tragically cut short, but her memory lives on through the work of her family and friends to raise awareness of domestic violence and to help others who have been affected by this heinous crime.
Kristin's story is a reminder that domestic violence is a serious problem that affects people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is a crime that destroys lives and leaves families and communities shattered.
