Early Life

Mickey Walker was born Michael John Walker on July 13, 1893, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was the son of Irish immigrants, and he grew up in a poor neighborhood. Walker began fighting at a young age, and he quickly developed a reputation as a tough and skilled boxer.

Professional Career

Walker made his professional debut in 1910 at the age of 17. He won his first 10 fights, and he quickly became one of the most popular fighters in the country. Walker was known for his aggressive style and his ability to take a punch. He was also a skilled boxer, and he was able to outbox many of his opponents.

In 1922, Walker won the welterweight championship of the world by defeating Jack Britton. He defended his title successfully three times before losing it to Pete Latzo in 1923. Walker then moved up to the middleweight division, and he won the world title in 1926 by defeating Harry Greb. He defended his title successfully twice before losing it to Gene Tunney in 1927.

Walker continued to fight until 1935, but he never regained his world titles. He finished his career with a record of 93 wins, 38 losses, and 50 draws.
