Abstract
This issue of Thoracic Surgery Clinics, guest edited by Drs. David R. Jones and Michael K. Passias, focuses on Patient Perspectives in Pulmonary Surgery. This issue is one of four selected each year by the series editor-in-chief, Dr. Peter C. Pairolero, and is based upon his analysis of the previous year's literature on thoracic surgery as well as a review of the suggestions of our consulting editors, leading experts in the field. Articles in this issue include: Patient perspectives on pulmonary resection for lung cancer: a systematic review; Patient perspectives on video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS); Patient perspectives on robotic pulmonary resection; Patient perspectives on minimally invasive surgery for pneumothorax; Patient perspectives on lung volume reduction surgery; Patient perspectives on lung transplantation; and Patient perspectives on pulmonary endarterectomy.
The articles in this issue provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in patient perspectives in pulmonary surgery. The authors discuss the importance of patient-centered care in pulmonary surgery, the different methods used to assess patient perspectives, and the findings of studies that have investigated patient perspectives on pulmonary surgery. The articles also provide recommendations for how to improve the patient experience in pulmonary surgery.
This issue of Thoracic Surgery Clinics is a valuable resource for thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, and other healthcare professionals who care for patients undergoing pulmonary surgery. The articles provide practical guidance on how to incorporate patient perspectives into the care of patients with pulmonary disease.
